Hugh Upsher is a Cape Town based creative copywriter that has been described as ‘delightful’ by more than one of his colleagues.
From podcasts and zines to working on integrated campaigns for big brands, Hugh has made a point of working across multiple mediums and skill sets. This borderless approach was picked up from his time at Michaelis School of Fine Art, where he would juggle pinhole photography and sculpture, all while keeping up with dead French philosophers.
After starting his career as an award-winning video editor and irreverent online writer, he turned his focus to advertising. This is where he was able to bring his unique perspective to a diverse set of brands including Superbalist, Investec Asset Management, Ballentine’s Whisky, Lucky Star Pilchards, News24 and Hollard Insurance.
As someone that gets excited about the unknown, Hugh thrives in a problem-solving environment. No matter how big or small the creative challenge, he always gets a huge kick from finding the most adventurous routes for telling brand stories.
